About the
Tjindu Aboriginal AFL Academy
Leveraging the appeal of sport, specifically AFL, Tjindu facilitate a specialised cultural and curriculum- based program that carters to the interests and learning needs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in years 10-12.
The program invites a squad of 60 students (30 boys and 30 girls) into the Academy, where they attend a once-per-week education, cultural and football/ fitness training day.
Students are mentored by Tjindu Foundation staff.
Students will complete either; Certificate II or III in Sport Coaching or undertake Aboriginal Studies.
The Aboriginal AFL Academy is run in partnership with the South Australian Aboriginal Secondary Training Academy and supported by the SEDA Group (SEDA)*.
Outcomes

EDUCATION
Students will complete a Certificate III in Sport Coaching plus an Aboriginal Studies elective as part of this program.

EMPLOYMENT
Students will have access to employment opportunities through SEDA.
Program Itinerary
The Tjindu Aboriginal AFL Academy is facilitated weekly on Tuesday’s from 8:30am-3:30pm in line with the school terms for 35 weeks

Pathways to Employment
Participating students are given a range of education and employment support through SEDA as part the program including:
- Compliance, reporting and issuing of Certificates by SEDA Group
- Career advice workshops, career expos, resume preparation and employability skills
- Links to SEDA's network of employers and vacancies for post Year 12 with focus on Apprenticeships and Traineeships
- Post-Academy transition to employment support for 12 months
- Assistance in preparation for University through SEDA's University partners (where applicable)
